- Thesis statement
The Supreme Court agreed on October 4th 2019 to hear a challenge to a Louisiana law that its opponents say would leave the state with only one doctor in a single clinic authorized to provide abortions. The case is the court’s first on abortion since President Trump’s appointments of two justices shifted the court to the right, and the court’s ruling, expected in June, could thrust the abortion issue into the center of the presidential campaign. Many call it inhumane, or proportional to taking another’s life, which are both extremely false claims. Women should have a right to choose since it is their body and futures in question, not anyone else’s.
Alabama is one of the few states who have taken action on these abortion stances. They passed the “Human Life protection act” which was supposed to be officially in action November 15th of this year. This act puts any abortion provider to be charged as a felony with up to 99 years or life in prison. This act does not exclude situations such as rape. States such as Ohio and Mississippi have also passed similar legislations.
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource center, 91% of rape victims are female, while 9% are male. They also state that one in five women will be raped in their lives, while one in 71 men will. With this information, we ask the question of why are we allowing men to choose whether abortion should be legal if they are a great deal lesser to be affected by a situation such as rape?
NJ Doctor Dr. Kristyn Brandi responds to President Trumps false criticisms on abortion stating that majority of abortions happen during the first trimester. Any abortions after the first trimester are due to real health risks to the mother. It is very rare that babies are killed during abortions, taking away the accusation that mothers take away a life.

- Sources I haven’t found yet
- I would like to find more specific statistics on rape
- I would like to find a transcript of Trump speaking on abortions or video
- Critics of my view will state that abortions are inhumane and take another humans life. This is false because rarely are abortions occurring while the baby is alive, it is an egg majority of when women get abortions.
- Critics will also state that rarely abortions are due to rape. Whether this is true or false, rape happens everywhere. No one should have a mans baby whom they do not love or want to have.

Doglover, any Op-Ed that began with “In 1973” would immediately raise the objections of editors who hired you for your opinion on a timely topic. While you may feel the need to provide readers some background information, you won’t be published if your essay fails to address a very current social situation.
The one that comes to mind is the attempt by Missouri to use a license-renewal refusal to shut down the very last clinic in the entire state where women can receive a legal abortion.
The other benefit of starting with a current bit of news is that your essay will gain a sharper focus, preventing you from meandering all over the abortion landscape. A good Op-Ed uses a VERY SMALL ITEM to illuminate a broader topic.
Give that a try, please. Otherwise, I may have to decline your Writing Plan.
