Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

In this specific class this is probably the first time I’ve ever recieved feedback from others. By that I mean I never used to ask my peers to read my paper and give me feedback for it. But in here, it was a must. My friend is an English major and this is the stuff she loves. I’ve asked her to review each of the major three papers that were going into the Porfolio in order to achieve the most feedback I could, besides the feedback offered from the Professor. The writing I think I demonstrated this the most on was the Op-ed for Portfolio. This paper I recieved a lot of great feedback that I think helped shape my paper and allow me to say the things I wanted to say, just in a more clear way. I recieved feedback on things that didn’t flow smoothly and ixed them to the best of my ability. 

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities. 

The piece of writing I think I probably used this technique the most on was my Letter to the Editor. This is the type of writing that required as much knowledge from others as possible. You basically had to argue with the original author and prove your stand on the topic. In order to do this you had to not only use the ideas you created in your head and your personal arguments against the author, but you also had to read other’s arguments to the author in order to make your best argument. I wrote this paper on a topic I was very passionate about and in order to cover any possible rebutle against me, research of other’s arguements were a necessity. 

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

I believe the piece of writing I demonstrated this best on was the Editorial for Portfolio. This was something that I was also extremely passionate about with regards to writing about because of it’s importance. In this I needed to persuade people the side of the topic I was writing about was the side to choose. I needed to use rhetorical elements in order to connect with the audiance the way I needed to so they could feel the impact the topic required. I used evidence and facts in order to convince the audiance on the side I was trying to prove. 

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

This was core value I believe I demonstrated very well because for each paper I used multiple sources in order to help my arguments. However, the piece of writing I think I did this the most on was again, the Op-ed for Portfolio. I used multiple sources in order to make sure I was getting all the information I could to benefit my argument. When recieving feedback from the professor I realized I needed to do even more research in order to make an even bigger point in my argument.  Getting as much information on this topic was important to me to avoid me looking like I didnt fully understand what I was talking about. 

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation. This is something that I think in the beginning of the course i struggled with. In my letter to the Editor this is something I messed up on at first. When I received my feedback for this I realized that I myself didn’t even fully understand what the author was saying there I was proving a point the author didn’t even make. But after receiving the feedback I did I think it helped me really understand this core value and work on it throughout the rest of my writing assignments.
