Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

My work shows my shift from a basic understanding of the task at hand to a decently written and acceptable paper. My work shows my ability to receive feedback and implement the feedback to the best of my understanding with no push back in the way. I put my time and effort into developing the work I put in. I made sure I used the tips and lessons the professor provided us in order to get my work done and accomplish to an accurate degree. I pushed myself to look at all the feedback and to understand it all as the semester progressed. I acknowledge the fact that I could have done better, but pushed myself to do better instead of staying content with what I had. This is all proven in my Op-Ed for portfolio work.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities. 

Most of my work has proven that I have the ability to read critically, apart from my letter to the editor draft which does not show entirely perfect critical reading skills. Acknowledging my mistakes is the first step to taking feedback. The feedback I’ve received from the professor has been extremely helpful in pushing me to improve my work. My work shows this appreciation in feedback, as in the beginning of the semester, my work was not acceptable at all for any appreciation from the professor. As time went on, I have been able to implement the best feedback into my work and synthesise my original thought with what the professor has taught me. The work that best shows that I have done my best to achieve this core value is my Op-Ed for portfolio.

Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

My work mostly demonstrates that I have the ability to rhetorically analyze the purpose of an article and my own works. Understanding the argument of my writing was one of the biggest challenges for me, as I did not understand how to go about it for the longest. Listening to what the professor was saying definitely aided me in fixing my work altogether. I was able to understand that I had to grab the reader’s attention as soon as possible and explain it, providing evidence all the way through. The professor explained it as being a reverse funnel, which helped to improve my understanding in my work such as my editorial. the work that best shows that I have tried my best to achieve this core value is my Editorial for Portfolio.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

My work has mostly met the expectations of academic writing, as my work has been through the cycle of feedback that it was supposed to go through, from draft form to portfolio form. My work has met a decent expectation of academic writing, it can be improved upon, but it is acceptable in its current form. My work has evidence that has links to the original source. They are used to support my ideas and understandings in my work. I did not incorporate illustrations, as illustrations were not necessary in my work overall. The work that best demonstrates this core value is my Editorial for Portfolio.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation.

My work does show that I know how to respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly. Representing complex ideas fairly was something I did consistently in my work as I did not accuse any of the original authors of anything they didn’t say. I made sure I was fair with how I responded to their work and in my work, I made sure to link the original work to avoid plagiarism. I made sure that the topics I had were clearly linked to the original article with no hidden agenda to cite their work as my own in any of my works. The work that best shows that I have tried my best to complete this core value is my LTE for Portfolio.
