Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

Throughout the course of this year, I have been able to enhance my writing skills more and more. When I first completed my first writing assignment in this class I previously thought my writing skills were efficient, then come to realize I have many things to improve. In my previous years of writing, many of the feedback given was difficult to understand and not specifically stated. In comparison, to Comp 1, whereby it completely changed the viewpoint of writing proficiently. In class, Professor Hodges will thoroughly explain techniques and tips to become a better writer with vivid details. The explanations given in class is very beneficial and useful as writing assignments began to become frequent. The allotted time he spends going over what writers may tend to struggle with later is taken into recognition when writing assignments. Then he also takes time out of his day to give beneficial feedback to wherever he sees improvement can be utilized. For reference, my LTE draft was a assignment that emphasized the feedback that was given that changed my writing from how it was to how it is now.

Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities. 

In order to complete many of the assignments a lot of research was required in order to attain enough information to be able properly argue the topic. The writing assignment where demonstrated recollection of information to support a certain topic is Editorial. As the you must have a certain opinion on the research given. Your uttermost feelings and thoughts about the certain topic should be heard in order to get the reader to view your perspective. I included different sources and quotes in order to back up the opinions I shared towards the topic. In order to successfully write a clear opinionated based piece, I used the information I retrieved based of the topic and stated how I felt towards it. One thing I tend to ave struggled with was inserted quotes and interpreting exactly what the quote says in my own words. with the feedback Professor had give he showed me how quotes should be followed by your opinion on how you feel towards the main idea purpose of the quote. The main purpose of these types of writing pieces is to be opinionated, so by stating your opinion strongly helps bring attention to the reader.

My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

The most influential way to write is by writing with purpose, this helps the writer want to achieve a writing piece that can entice the reader to see your perspective. Your main target should be directed towards your reader because the way you interpret you opinions depends on what effects it’ll bring towards the reader. These values were shown in my Op Ed. In this writing piece the main point this to to provide a logical and convincing case for a personal opinion. You must provide adequate evidence with different sources that support what your case. My opinions were used to emphasize how I felt towards the topic and made it more persuasive.

Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

The editorial that I wrote was the best example that demonstrated the success of the expectations that were required for my academic writing. In this writing piece I had to find articles in order to prove how the epidemic of Juuls has reached it climax and now effecting the school system. The school systems decided to put their feet down in order to stop the widespread amount of vaping. The evidence that I had built up from articles in order to support my opinion helped provide extra support to support my idea. The illustration inserted into the writing piece also help the reader to get a physical visual of Juul users. By giving a visual of what Juuling does it can hopefully impact the reader because it gives them a physical visual. Depending on what research you bring forth will be useful for support.

Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation. 

When writing, using citations is important in order to give the writer’s ownership’s of the quotes. This shows honesty towards the use of someone else’s words, not using citations can make you lose the argument you are trying to prove. Without citation you are basically taking someone else’s words and using it as your own which is unfair. This is something that is important and should be used whenever you write and cite someone else’s works. Throughout my writing pieces that I have completed throughout this semester, the citations I used has the direct website to give credit to the source it came from. Citations enhance my writing because it shows that as the writer you are fair. An example, where I used citations is in my Op-Ed. All the links for the citations I used were included in the end of paper to show where I got the quotes from.
